On November 21st, Her STEM Space hosted an event at the Valle Verde Children’s Center. Our members, Aleah Clark, Shriti Dham, Kaley Nguyen, Nicole Popov Spektor, Jordan Scales, and Angie Yao taught elementary school students basic engineering and problem-solving principles. Students built boats with aluminum foil and experimented with the amount of coins that each boat could carry.

The students tried different boat shapes and were eager to build new boats after their old ones sank. One student built 14 boats to test the advantages of each and was able to float 32 coins.
“I got to see their creative side and I loved seeing how passionate they were about participating in this activity” – Shriti Dham
