On March 20th, Emmanuelle Dardik, Kaley Nguyen, Tanishka Roy, Senulya Senarath, and Angie Yao taught a lesson in Mrs. Perham’s third grade classroom at Walnut Acres Elementary. Students were taught to build bristlebot robots using a toothbrush, battery, and motor. Once the motor was connected to the battery, the bristles of the toothbrush vibrated rapidly and propelled the bristlebot forward, allowing it to glide on desk surfaces.

The students were extremely enthusiastic and learned about how electricity can power a motor, helping them learn about circuits and STEM hands-on. Once students finished their BristleBots, they began helping their classmates and innovating their robots creatively. Many students started building mazes for their robots and decorating them with googly eyes and markers. Most importantly, the students enjoyed the project, were excited to take their bristlebots home, and laughed a lot.
